Rev. John Hagee endorsed Trump from the pulpit. Not in so many words, but it was clear.
From Laced Up Lutheran:
Hagee preaches a gospel message alright. It’s a message of the religion of America first. it’s a religion of empire. It’s the same religion that has been followed by so many in the past. It was the religion of the British empire at its height. It was the religion of Greece and Rome, of Babylon and Egypt. It has been the religion of every empire that ever exist – or would be empire. It’s a religion where the nation is no longer just a nation, but something more. A religion which preaches that the nation and its leader(s) are the savior of the world. A religion that separates those who are chosen (within the empire and supporting the empire) from the damned (everyone else). It’s a religion of us vs. them. It’s a religion that uses God’s name for the benefit of the chosen – wrapping the national flag around God like a cloak. All enemies of this religion must be destroyed because the god of this religion is a wrathful, fearful deity that only understands the language of power. [Okay. That’s a bit harsh. – Dave]
How do we understand God in the face of what some to believe to be national crisis? I don’t remember seeing red-letter quotes about immigrants or unisex bathrooms.
Yet I do understand that Christ commanded us to love one another while thousands of years later we’re still struggling with this.
Love your enemy? Is that how nations should act? Or was that a command for individuals?
Andf what advice do you have for this seminarian?
I don’t know much about Matt Barber, or his site Barbwire. This announcement of his book “Hating Jesus” caught my attention. I actually thought it was a book about how the author hates Jesus.
In Hating Jesus, Matt Barber documents how American leftists have co-opted every elite institution: schools, government, the media, Hollywood and the arts, many conservative organizations, and even much of what passes for the Church in America. With growing power, the progressive movement wages its relentless War on Christianity—and they are winning. The ultimate goal? Conform to their pagan demands, or face financial ruin or even incarceration.
Really? Churches, too? Without getting into a spat about denominations, have you ever attended a church which was leftist and progressive to the point you had to leave?
And do you attribute the “war on religion” to hatred of Jesus? Why would folks actually hate Jesus? I have my ideas, but yours are probably better. — Dave
Conservative? Check. Christian? Apparently so. Man. Better than most, I think.
Random quotes cribbed from The Daily Signal:
Much that seemed inconceivable is now firmly or universally established,” Thomas said. “Hallmarks of my youth, such as patriotism and religion, seem more like outliers, if not afterthoughts. So in a sense I feel out of place doing this or any commencement. My words will perhaps be more of a vintage nature than current in context.” (via MLive.com) – snip-
“Do not hide your faith and your beliefs under a bushel basket, especially in this world that seems to have gone mad with political correctness,” Thomas said. (Via ConservativeHQ.com).
“At risk of understating what is necessary to preserve liberty in our form of government, I think more and more it depends on good citizens discharging their daily duties and obligations,” Thomas said, according to Hillsdale student Breana Noble’s reporting for The College Fix. “Sadly, today it seems as though grievances rather than personal conduct are the means of elevation.”
